January 2016 Newsletter

Dear friends,

I hope everyone had a fun and productive January and that getting back to work after the holidays wasn’t too difficult of a transition!  Before we know it, the schools will be on March Break, and Spring will be around the corner!

As I have mentioned in the previous newsletter, we are currently in the middle of working on a multi-year budget that will cover 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.  This multi-year budget will allow for the alignment of longer-term goals and objectives with longer-term funding plans, will allow greater certainty for citizens about the future direction of the City and taxes, and improve accountability and transparency over spending plan changes.   Council is currently seeking community feedback on the multi-year budget.  Here is how you can get involved:

  • Tweet to @CityofLdnOnt or -#LdnBudget
  • Like the Facebook page and comment
  • E-mail budget@london.ca
  • Call Financial Planning and Policy at 519-661-4638
  • Book time with the City Treasurer for a budget presentation (Please contact Jon-Paul McGonigle at jmcgonig@london.ca or call 519-661-2500 x 4789 to request a session.

This month, I will be heading to the Ontario Good Roads Association Conference as well as the FCM Sustainable Cities Conference. I am really looking forward to learning about what other cities are doing in terms of road maintenance and sustainable infrastructure, as well as bringing what I’ve learned back to London to help improve our communities.

I also wanted to let you know that I have started posting blog topics on my website.  Updates will be posted on various issues more frequently than my newsletter, so you will no longer have to wait until the next month!

The next Ward 10 meeting will be taking place on April 23, 2016 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Westmount Public Library.  London Police and Neighbourhood Watch will be in attendance to answer any questions about community policing and neighbourhood safety.  Please click here for more details and to register!

Kind Regards,

Virginia Ridley
